El Mixteco doesn't follow recipes from a book — we follow the ones passed down through generations in Oaxaca. Every tortilla is hand-pressed, every mole is slow-cooked, and every visit feels like coming home to a table you didn't know you had.
El Mixteco was born from a simple conviction: the food of Oaxaca deserves to be taken seriously everywhere it's served. Our founders left the Sierra Mixteca with three things — a stack of handwritten recipes, a stone molcajete, and a refusal to cut corners.
Today, that commitment shows in every dish. We toast and grind our chiles by hand. We simmer our moles for hours — sometimes all day — because patience is an ingredient you can't substitute. And we press every tortilla fresh, right here on Broadway.
Each recipe carries the weight of tradition and the warmth of a kitchen that never rushes. These are the plates our guests come back for.
Our most labor-intensive dish — charred chiles, plantain, chocolate, and over twenty ingredients slow-simmered for hours. Served over free-range chicken.
The Oaxacan answer to pizza — a giant, crispy tortilla slathered with refried beans, queso Oaxaco, avocado, and your choice ofcecina or chapulines.
Marinated pork spun on a vertical trompo, sliced thin, served on hand-pressed corn tortillas with pineapple, onion, and cilantro.
From the first sip of mezcal to the last bite of flan, everything at El Mixteco is designed to make you feel the care behind every detail.
A curated selection of Oaxacan mezcals, from smoky artesanal to smooth reposado — paired by our knowledgeable staff.
Watch our cooks press tortillas, chop chiles, and tend the moles. The kitchen is part of the performance.
From birthdays to celebrations, we offer private dining with custom menus that honor Oaxacan tradition.
Chilaquiles, horchata, and fresh-squeezed juice — our weekend brunch is the best reason to slow down.

Don't take our word for it — hear from the people who make El Mixteco their regular spot.
"The mole negro here is the real deal. I've traveled through Oaxaca and this is as close as I've found in Baltimore. The atmosphere is warm, the service is attentive, and I leave feeling like I've been fed by family."
"We hosted our anniversary dinner here and the team went above and beyond. The mezcal pairing was spot-on, the tlayuda was enormous, and the flan was the perfect ending. Already planning our next visit."
"As someone who grew up eating Oaxacan food at home, I can say with confidence that El Mixteco gets it right. The horchata, the tortillas, the warmth of the space — it all feels authentic and deeply comforting."
Whether it's a quick lunch on South Broadway or a Sunday dinner with the whole family, El Mixteco is ready to welcome you. Reserve your seat or stop by — we'll have the mole ready.
